HOPG (Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite) is a high-purity, well-oriented, high-layered graphite. It is characterized by a small mosaic spread due to the good alignment of individual graphite microcrystals, as well as a very smooth surface and conductivity. The smaller the mosaic spread, the higher the degree of orientation and the greater the flatness. Since HOPG has a layered structure, sample preparation is very simple. By pressing adhesive tape against the HOPG surface and then peeling it off, a very smooth new conductive surface is obtained.
